Ylang Ylang Essential Oil for Aromatherapy Massage

Ylang-ylang essential oil is oil derived by steam distillation of the curly yellow flowers of Ylang Ylang tree (Cananga odorata). The oil gives a sweet floral aroma. The oil’s uplifting scent has a feminine signature that awakens sensuality. The brewing of oil from the Ylang Ylang tree is a time-consuming process and results in five different grades.

The grades are Ylang Ylang Extra, Ylang Ylang 1, 2, 3, and Ylang Ylang Complete. Ylang Ylang Extra is the first fraction that gives the strong brew and the strongest of the grades in terms of aroma and taste.

The Ylang Ylang 1, 2, and 3 are the subsequent fractions of the brewing which shows a gradual trend in scent and composition. Out of these three grades, Ylang Ylang 3 is the mildest adopted for cosmetic use. The other first two are suitable for aromatherapy and emotional balance.

Ylang Ylang Complete is the mixture of the first four grades – extra, 1, 2, and 3. The mix is a multi-versatile oil for massage, kneading the skin, and instilling a unique sense of peace.

Usage

It is good for relieving stress, pacifying anger, and inhibiting the amplification of other hyperactive feelings. If you want to have an emotional balance, blend the Ylang Ylang oil with Geranium and Lavender oil and dilute the mix. The diffused aroma of the mixture will soothe the emotional distress.

Sleep disorders can be alleviated using a mix of Ylang Ylang oil, Bergamot, and Marjoram essential oil. If better sleep is the goal of the client, the aromatherapist can diffuse the diluted mix using a diffuser to achieve the goal while kneading the muscle.

The alternating between the gentle and harder kneading of the body with Ylang Ylang oil provides pain relief and heals muscle cramps and strains. The patch test is a dime-size test on the forearm observed for skin irritation for 24 to 48 hours. For the patch test, the concentration of the oil is higher than will be used for normal topical application.

To get a shelf life of 4 to 5 years with Ylang Ylang oil, store it in a small dark bottle to prevent oxidation.
